Principal

For twenty years, James D. Petersen has created luxurious private worlds for his clients in the United States and abroad. Born in New York City, James earned his BFA studying architecture, interior design and fine art at Pratt Institute. For seven years, he worked with the legendary Mark Hampton. James opened his own interior design firm in New York in 1996, and in 2004 began a six year collaboration with architects, Wadia Associates of New Canaan, Connecticut. While working together, James created many interiors and decorations in their new homes, developing a reputation of excellence throughout the Greenwich and New Canaan communities. His work has appeared in Architectural Digest, Veranda, Connecticut Cottages and Gardens, and Greenwich Magazine. An avid artist, James’ oil and watercolor paintings have been exhibited with Silvermine Artists In Residence, and art auctions benefiting Catskills Rural AIDS Services.

"There are a myriad of rules in interior design and decorating and an equal number of exceptions. Intimate understanding and experience enables us to know when these rules are helpful and guide us or are restrictive and need to be broken with style and panache."

Versatility

Successfully designed rooms are an amalgam of their architectural context and the unique preferences and requirements of the client. In other words, it's about you, not us. If you are not sure of what your look is, we will explore with you and create it together.
